5500 E-file: Checking the Status of the E-filed Return

Check the status of the returns indicating whether the e-filed return has been Accepted or Rejected by the DOL:

  1. Select Returns Processing > E-file > Status Report.
  2. Select an Account, Tax Year, and Return Type 5500 from the drop-down lists.
  3. Select the appropriate criteria for federal statuses.

  4. Click Continue. A list of returns matching the criteria you selected is created.
  5. You may view the statuses of the returns sent as date sent, date acknowledged, etc.
  6. Once a return has been Accepted by the DOL, the status will change to Accepted.

Rejections

If a return was Rejected by the DOL, you should correct the rejection and resubmit the return:

  1. From the E-file Status Report screen, click Rejected in the Federal Status column.
  2. The appropriate reject messages will be displayed.
  3. Click the Print button.
  4. Review the reason for the rejection on the printed Rejection Notice.
  5. Open the return and correct the errant information.
  6. If the situation causing the rejection cannot be corrected, the return should be downloaded and submitted through 5500 E-file: IFILE.
