5500 E-file: General Information
The DOL has mandated e-file capabilities to 5500 taxpayers through its EFAST2 system. This system uses a new architecture that is more efficient and scalable than previous e-file systems. Some of the new capabilities introduced with the EFAST2 system are as follows:
- uses XML to format return data and transmit to the IRS
- allows binary data (non-XML documents) to be transmitted to the Department of Labor in PDF format
- uses redesigned Business Rules (diagnostics)
- uses a standardized Acknowledgment File structure across all form types.
