5500 E-file: Form 8955-SSA - Checking the Status of the E-filed Return
Check the status of the returns indicating whether the e-filed return has been Accepted or Rejected by the IRS:
- Select Returns Processing > E-file > Status Report.
- Select an Account, Tax Year, and Return Type 5500 from the drop-down lists.
- From the Federal Status drop-down list, select the All Statuses option.
- If necessary, enter the date range of the returns.
- Click Continue. A list of returns matching the criteria you selected is created.
- You may view the statuses of the returns sent as date sent, date acknowledged, etc.
- Once a return has been Accepted by the IRS, the status will change to Accepted.
Rejected Returns
If a return was Rejected by the IRS, you should correct the rejection and resubmit the return:
- From the E-file Status Report screen, click Rejected in the Federal Status column.
- The appropriate reject messages will be displayed.
- Click the Print button.
- Review the reason for the rejection on the printed Rejection Notice.
- Open the return and correct the errant information.
- Recreate and resubmit the e-file.
