1040 E-file: E-filing Returns
Prior to e-filing 1040 returns, you must first complete preparation and review of the return to ensure all information on the return is accurate.
To e-file 1040 returns with the IRS, you must complete two separate tasks:
- Prepare and file the electronic return.
- Send the IRS transmittal form with paper forms that would normally be attached to Form 1040.
Not all returns qualify for e-file. Our software generates appropriate diagnostics when it encounters a return that does not qualify for e-file and rejects the nonqualifying return.
Steps to E-file Returns
- Prepare the electronic part of the return.
- Prepare the paper part of the return.
- Create an e-file for the return.
