1040 E-file: Setting State E-file Tax Defaults

  1. In Tax Defaults, select the E-file > 1040 tab.

  2. If desired, select the option to activate the e-file opt-out record for the listed states.
  3. For California, indicate:
    • this is a taxpayer election
    • there is reasonable cause for the opt-out.
  4. For Kentucky, indicate the following:
    • this is a taxpayer election
    • the preparer received a federal waiver
    • the preparer is part of a recognized religious group opposed to e-file.
