Preparer Tips

What are recommended procedures for enabling and preparing the e-file?

Recommended procedures for creating your e-file:

Enabling E-file: if a return is being e-filed, enable the e-file very early.

Naming Conventions:

  1. If you have PDF attachments, name the PDF file name per IRS naming convention and without special characters, multiple spaces, and symbols.
  2. If you are uploading a Third Party XML, name the XML file name without special characters, spaces, and symbols.

Creating the Federal Validation File:

  1. While you are working on the paper return, create the Federal Validation File at any return level.
  2. Fix any e-file Diagnostics and XML Validation Errors while the paper return is being worked to save time when creating the final XML file.
  3. Specific forms have screen instructions that are related to e-file and alerts. Follow instructions.
  4. Review the e-file through the E-file Viewer.
